Caroline Hickman is a practising psychotherapist, lecturer at the University of Bath and international authority on climate psychology, specifically children and young people’s emotional distress in the face of the climate and ecological crisis. Her report for UNICEF Young People's Voices on Climate Anxiety, Government Betrayal and Moral Injury: A Global Phenomenon got media attention around the world.
During my discussions with Caroline, the word ‘deep’ and ’depth’ kept being mentioned. From this came the strapline ‘psychotherapy to navigate the depths’. The idea being that when you are in the depths of despair, you need help to navigate to a better place. And from this came the key underwater image going from a deep, dark place, up to the light. It turned out that Caroline is a diving instructor and so this watery image and colours felt appropriate on many levels.
