Abbey Meadow Flowers
Website helps green florist to thrive
Services: visual identity / web design / graphic design
The flower industry is horribly polluting. Nearly all flowers sold in the UK are grown in Africa, sprayed with large amounts of insecticides, frozen and flown to this country. Caroline White of Abbey Meadow Flowers has taken a different approach. She grows her own flowers, with no chemicals, in her garden in Stroud, Gloucestershire. The flowers she provides are fresh, seasonal and smell wonderful. What’s more, she offers a wider variety of flowers than is found in supermarkets and most florists.
Caroline contacted us as she needed a new brand identity and website to help her grow her wedding flower business.
We identified that Abbey Meadow Flowers has the characteristics of a farmers’ market, and this differentiates her from mainstream flower suppliers: fresh, seasonal, traditional, quirky, high quality and ethical. With this in mind we created a new logo using a traditional serif typeface which has been letterpressed and looks knobbly, quirky and ‘uncorporate’. The final touch was to add a typographer’s ornamental flourish, creating an elegant logo appropriate to the quality of her flowers.
We decided that there wouldn’t be a limited palette of ‘brand’ colours; rather the colours should be inspired by those of the flowers in the photographs. This ensures the colours used on her marketing materials complement and reflect the vibrant range of colours found in her flowers.
Caroline has fantastic photographs of her work. So that visitors to the website can instantly see the photos, we decided to use them as prominently as possible, across the full width of the top of every page. The site is responsive (works on phones, tablets and desktop monitors), is search engine optimised and is easy for the client to update.
Our work has helped the business to thrive. Caroline is proud of her brand identity and website and is now getting booked up next year and the year after.
